Using Present Perfect Simple | ||||||||||||

Last week we learnt how to write about an ongoing activity in the unfinished time, an activity for which there is no result. This week we are going to look at the other choice you have when you want to write about present time, the present perfect simple (have + p.p.). There are three kinds of results you might want to write about: personal achievements you have made in your life; the results of a project you are working on at the moment; and general business results this quarter, or this half year.
Task 1: Sort the sentences into the table below.
Costs have also risen since June.
I haven’t been to Japan yet.
I’ve already been to New York three times in the last two years.
I’ve finished three presentations so far.
I’ve had five meetings about this problem since yesterday.
I’ve just got my EMBA.
I’ve just written a report.
I’ve known John for ages.
I’ve recently talked to Malcolm about the problem with the specs.
Our targets have just increased.
Sales have risen for the last three months.
This means that profits have so far remained the same.
