中式英文I’m going to leave, or I can’t catch the train.
老外這樣說與人道別時,若將「我要走了」,直接翻譯成 “I’m going to leave.” 相當不禮貌。通常口語上會說 “I have to go.”。之前有同學問過一個頗有趣的問題。他說美國朋友對他說 “I have to run.” 時,他以為那朋友是要去跑步了,而事實上,“I’ve gotta run.” 是另一句口語,指「該走了/趕時間」之意。
實境對話
A: I’m afraid I have to go. I don’t want to miss my train. B: So soon? Well, we’ll have to do this again sometime. A:我得走了。我可不想錯過火車。 B:這麼快就要走了?那,我們只好下次再聚一聚了。
