Sandra:Hi Thomas. I just read a good article about Sony Ericsson developing a phone that allows people to download songs.
Thomas:I'm not surprised at all. Sony Ericsson is one of our biggest competitors, along with Nokia and Motorola. BenQSiemens is also a close competitor of ours in certain markets. They are all key players in this industry. We're in direct competition with them all.
Sandra:I think we need to gather more competitive intelligence on them. I'm going to ask some of my staff to conduct a thorough competitive analysis so that we can better understand how we can compete with these huge companies.
Thomas:That's a good idea. These are giant, multinational public companies, not some small mom-and-pop shop. Also, Sony is a very diversified company, with a lot of resources to pour into research and development. It doesn't face the same kind of entry barriers to the market that a smaller company like ours does.
Sandra:Perhaps we need to look at a joint-venture project with another company. We could look at joining forces with a large retail chain to give better exposure to our phones.
