Thomas:Look at that. I just got a text message advertising a discount on phone calls to China, Japan, and Korea. Let’s run an ad for the GR8 like this.
Sandra:Speaking of cheapening our image, wouldn’t using intrusive advertising like that threaten NWC’s positive brand recognition?
Mark:Not necessarily. Like many banner ads and pop-up ads, text messages like the one Thomas just received are targeted. Based on user profiles, we can predict which recipients are more likely to have a need for a particular product or service, and therefore be more inclined to have a positive reaction to an ad.
Veronica:I guess in that sense, targeted text messages are not like spam or junk email at all. Most of that crap is sent by web affiliates who will make cash on clickthrough, so their objective is sending in volume, not with accurate targeting.
Sandra:I think I see what Thomas is getting at. We could send text messages to users of high-end phones and encourage them to visit our website.
Mark:In that case, since you might have a sudden jump in traffic, I would make sure your website can handle the load. And speaking of your website, I’d need data from whoever is hosting your site. I’m sure they’ve been tracking the number of hits to your homepage and collecting information about the visitors to the site. With that information, we should be able to make more educated decisions about how best to spend our advertising dollars.
Veronica:I’ll get in touch with the webmaster and get web traffic data to you.
Thomas:Hurry. The clock is ticking. And on that note, I’m late for a meeting.
Thomas turns, exits, and sprints down the hall, his tie flying behind him.(湯瑪斯轉身離開,快速向大廳那頭飛奔過去,領帶都飄到了身後。)
Sandra:Mr. Fong! You forgot your phone! Thomas!
