表原因或理由的片語介系詞包括 because of、due to、owing to、on account of、thanks to 等。

(A) because of

because of 表「因為」，例如：

• The picnic was canceled because of the rain.
  野餐因為下雨而取消。
• Because of his poor health, he had to retire early.
  因為身體不好，所以他必須提前退休。

(B) due to

due to 指「由於」，與 because of 的意思及用法皆相仿。請看例句：

• The company went bankrupt due to poor management.
  該公司由於經營不善而倒閉。
• Due to the budget cut, we were forced to stop providing the service.
  由於預算被刪減，我們被迫停止提供那項服務。

(C) owing to

與 because of 和 due to 相同，片語介系詞 owing to 也用來表原因、理由。請看例句：

• The baseball game was postponed owing to bad weather .
  棒球賽因為天候不佳而延期。
• Owing to rising gasoline prices , more and more people are using public transport.
  由於汽油價格不斷上揚，因而有越來越多的人搭乘大眾運輸工具。

(D) on account of

on account of 同樣也用來表達「因為」、「由於」之意。請看例句：

• She decided not to divorce her husband on account of the children.
  她因為小孩的緣故，所以決定不跟她丈夫離婚。
• On account of the huge order we received., everyone had to work overtime.
  由於我們收到龐大的訂單，所以每個人都得加班。

(E) thanks to

thanks to 是用來表達原因、理由的一個慣用語。請看例句：

• Thanks to their help and support, the benefit concert was a great success.
  由於他們的協助與支持，這場慈善音樂會非常成功。
• Now she doesnt even talk to me, thanks to your stupidity..
  因為你的愚蠢，她現在連話都不跟我說了。

thanks to 有時可指「幸虧」，例如：

• Thanks to him, everyone was safe and sound.
  幸虧有他，每一個人都安然無恙。
