Thomas:Well, I appreciate everyone’s opinions, but it sounds like we’re still a long way from reaching a consensus.

Dennis:I still think the target market for low-cost phones is a lot bigger than the market for the high-end stuff.

Thomas:How do you know that, Dennis? And exactly how many more low-cost phones would we have to sell to generate the same revenue as a higher-priced model?

Sandra:Right. We can obtain a premium price for phones with just one or two advanced features. Dennis, you were talking about a videophone a few days ago. That’s innovative, right? A feature like that would allow us to charge at least NT$2,000 more per unit.

Thomas:Are you sure about that, Sandra? How did you come up with that number?

Veronica:We can argue all day about whether low cost is really such an important factor, or whether the phone’s performance will drive sales. The main thing we have to do is to help consumers distinguish between our phones and the other phones on the market. If we can do that, I’m sure we’ll be able to boost our market share by at least a percentage point or two.

Thomas:Veronica, do you have any data to back that up? Are we all just guessing here? Thanks for your input, but I think it’s time to get serious. I want you to identify a market segment that would be interested in a lowcost videophone. Insurance agents? Golf pros? Amateur pornographers? I don’t know. If we can’t back up our opinions with some solid research, we’ll have to go back to the drawing board.
